Strathcona Place Society strives mainly to serve the Edmonton senior community (age 55+). We also extend our reach further through our intergenerational programs and outreach initiatives.
Strathcona Place Society hosts a variety of courses and groups and provides outreach social services. Our mission is to better the lives of seniors and the community through recreation, social support and opportunities for senior engagement; let's Reduce Ageism Together!
We host numerous senior groups such as the Woodworking, Wonder Women and Wisemen's groups, as well as courses including Conversational Spanish and Fitness classes that provide opportunities to share and explore interests.
Outreach activities are centered on supporting independent living, enhancing the quality of lives of seniors within the community, and linking low-income and other at-risk senior groups to social support services. The Strathcona Place Outreach Team (SPOT) also runs two weekly support groups: Wisemen and Wonder Women.
Strathcona Place Society is the place for active seniors who want to stay fit, learn new skills, and engage with their community. Yoga, Tai Chi, Gentle Strength Training, art, weaving, and table tennis are some of our most popular activities. The Centre also hosts several workshops, lectures, and other events to engage seniors meaningfully.
Behind every good organization, are good volunteers! Volunteers play an integral role in the work we do at Strathcona Place Society; there are always new and exciting opportunities being created for our volunteers, and we encourage everyone who has something to offer or love interacting with others to sign-up and be a part of something bigger than themselves.
